ACFUG Ben Forta Summer Tour

Sozo Hosting was one of the sponsors of the June meeting of the Atlanta Coldfusion User Group at which Ben Forta was the guest speaker.  This meeting was the third stop on Ben’s User Group 2004 tour – Blackstone, Flash and Flex. I took a front row seat in the posh Macquarium theater to take notes (video and audio recording was not allowed) regarding the future of Coldfusion. Based on feedback from the first couple of tour meetings Ben decided to stop trying to squeeze in Flash and Flex material because the attendees were mostly interested in Coldfusion MX 2004 aka Blackstone.

Review of Google’s GMail

Thanks to Robert from bump.net I now have GMail account. So what’s the BIG deal? Well, to start off you’re given 1GB (1000MB) of space! Google significantly upped the ante on storage space (in comparison Yahoo offers 100MB and Hotmail’s limit is a paltry 2MB). In terms of what it takes to manage incoming email they’ve whittled it down to just 3 main actions: 1) Archive, 2) Report as Spam or 3) Move to Trash.

Coldfusion Blackstone Beta

Tim Buntel has posted a link to Blackstone beta application.

Ben on Blackstone

Now that Ben Forta has finished his CFUG summer tour he has posted an official preview of what we can expect in Blackstone.

Macromedia has posted some official info regarding the next version of Coldfusion.

Coldfusion MX and Windows XP2

Seems like the default firewall settings in Windows Service Pack 2 may cause some connection issues with Coldfusion MX. Macromedia however has already released a technote which guides you through the process of getting things back to normal.

Macromedia has released an updater for Coldfusion MX 6.1. It includes 60+ hotfixes that have been released since the jump from CFMX 6.0 to 6.1. Something I’m looking forward to is the updated JDBC database drivers. These are supposed to be updates that come down the pike from Blackstone development.

CFUnited-05

Sozo Hosting will be attending the CFUnited 05 (formerly CFUN) conference. As in previous years it will be held in the northern Washington DC area but this time it’ll be at a new venue and more sessions than any previous CFUN. This is an excellent conference which provides great bang for your buck. CFUnited will run from Wed. June 29 – Fri. July 1. You have until April 30 to register for $549.

Coldfusion ‘Mystic’

Ben Forta has revealed that there will be another update to Coldfusion before Scorpio. However, there’s no official word on enhancements or timeline (though 2006 seems likely).

The comments on Ben’s blog has several posts from developers on features and improvements they would definitely like to see make it into future versions.

CFIMAGE - Finally!

Coldfusion 8 aka Scorpio will introduce cfimage – a native image manipulation tag. In the meantime, Sozo Hosting does have the customtag CFX_ImageCR3 available for our Shared and Reseller customers.
